Unfortunately for you with these type of record searches, scam sites greatly outnumber the legitimate sites on the internet. The important factor in looking and comparing sites and prices from legitimate companies is to first look for contact information on the site. Is there a phone number, email, and fax associated with the business?
Beware there are many information resource sites advertising unlimited or free license plate searches. Please note this a ploy by these sites to get you to join membership to their site. After members pay to join, they are provided other site links or useless free information. Despite claims, these sites DO NOT provide license plate records. They also do not provide any contact information on their sites, so refund requests & complaints will not be received.
Why must I have a reason for a license plate search?
It is a requirement by Federal & State Privacy Laws that a valid reason is needed for registration and driver license records. Regardless where you receive license plate records, a valid reason is required by law under the Driver Privacy Protection Act.
Why do some state license plate searches cost more than others?
Since some states do not have an accessible registration record database, we must either submit a registration record request form directly to the state, or attain the record by other means. This takes more time and money to perform.
The cost is depended on what each state charges plus any requirement cost that may be involved (notarizations, postage deliveries, etc.).
